How to Clear Clogged Pores
Clogged pores can be an absolute nightmare. They can lead to blemishes, oily and greasy skin, and even rashes and infections, not to mention stubborn blackheads and whiteheads.
Fortunately, with just a few natural ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store, you can clean your pores with a homemade face mask.
Before we get into how to clean your pores with a homemade face mask, though, let's first talk about a few habits you should maintain to avoid clogged pores in the first place.
Are you washing your face every morning with a gentle facial cleanser that doesn't contain any harsh detergents?
Do you use the same face wash at night before you go to bed to wash away your makeup and all of the dirt and grime you've come in contact with throughout the day?
Clogged Pores
Clogged pores can occur for many different reasons. First and foremost, though, is a buildup of excess dirt and oils. A clean face won't have nearly as many clogged pores as a dirty face.
So, before all else, make sure that you're maintaining a regular skincare routine.
Make sure it's complete with daily cleansing, an excellent astringent, and a light moisturizer or serum. Next, try to minimize how often you touch your face with your hands throughout the day.
You carry many oils, dust, and other tiny bits of microscopic debris, bacteria, etc., on your hands every day.
The more you touch your face, whether to rub your eyes, scratch your cheek, wipe your mouth, or anything else, the more you'll rub all of that into your pores.
So, to minimize the occurrence of clogged pores, keep your face clean and keep your hands off of it.
When you do encounter clogged pores, though, use this easy recipe to give your face a deep cleaning that will clear up your pores and leave your skin looking radiant.
Homemade Face Mask Recipe
First, sanitize your workstation. Working in unsanitary conditions can lead to poor results or worse. So, please wash your hands, put on some gloves, grab your lab coat, and watch our handy video on setting up a clean work area here.
Next, you'll need a sterilized Pyrex bowl, a sterilized spoon or whisk, and these ingredients:
- 1 Ounce of coconut milk
- .25 Ounce of unflavored gelatin
- .5 Ounce of lemon juice (freshly squeezed, if possible)
- .5 Ounce of honey
Add all of the parts together in your Pyrex bowl and use your spoon or whisk to stir them up until they are evenly mixed.
Next, microwave the mixture for 15-20 seconds.
Take it carefully out of the microwave. Then, stir the mixture and allow it to cool until it is a warm, comfortable temperature that won't burn your skin.
Apply this warm mixture to your entire face and let it dry.
Once it's dry, it should already have penetrated your pores, so you can go ahead and carefully peel it off of your skin.
Finally, rinse your face with warm water and then follow up with your favorite toner.
Blackhead Removal
As you're probably already painfully aware, clogged pores very often result in blackheads and whiteheads.
When this happens, squeezing and popping the blemishes can lead to scarring, which no one wants.
Instead of just living with blackheads, though, you can get rid of them without harming your skin. This homemade mask is fantastic for blackhead removal and cleaning out clogged pores that have not formed into blemishes yet.
If you have one or more full-blown blackheads, you can make a batch of this homemade face mask and do a few spot treatments on your nose, chin, or other affected areas to get rid of them.
For pores strips, apply the mask to the area you would like to target. Then, use a piece of toilet paper or something similar to cover. Wait 10-20 minutes, and then peel off the strip.
Top 5 Ways to Reduce Pore Size: A Simple Guide to Flawless Skin
Hello, lovely ladies! Remember when we were kids, and we’d stare at our reflection, wondering when we'd grow out of the acne-prone years? Some days our pores were tiny and flawless. Other days, it was like the craters of the moon.
As time goes on, and especially as we transition into our postmenopausal years, those pores can become a little more noticeable. Just like the way a garden has flowers of different sizes, our skin has pores that sometimes want to stand out. But no worries!
We’ve got you covered. Let's dive into the top 5 ways to reduce pore size, explained as simply as telling a bedtime story to a child.
1. Daily Cleansing and Exfoliation
Imagine our skin is like a garden. If we don’t remove the weeds (dirt and dead skin), our flowers (pores) can become clogged and look bigger. Using a gentle cleanser and exfoliator helps clear out these "weeds," making our skin garden look fresh and pretty. So, make it a habit to clean and gently scrub your face regularly.
2. Pore Masks - A Special Treatment for Those Stubborn Pores
Think of pore masks as a special spa day for your face. These masks, often made from clay or charcoal, act like a vacuum cleaner, sucking out impurities from our pores. When you remove the mask, it takes away the excess oil and dirt with it, leaving your pores looking refined.
How to Use Homemade Pore Treatments: Once or twice a week, after cleaning your face, apply a pore mask. Let it sit (relax and read a book while you wait!) and rinse off as directed.3. Sun Protection - Your Best Friend
The sun might feel lovely, but it's a sneaky enemy for our pores. It can decrease our skin's collagen, making pores appear larger. It's like when a garden gets too much sun, and the flowers start to wilt. So, always wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days, to protect your skin garden from wilting.
4. Non-comedogenic Makeup and Moisturizers
This fancy word, "non-comedogenic," simply means it won’t block your pores. It's like choosing the right type of water for our garden - one that won't drown our flowers. So, when buying makeup or moisturizers, look for this word on the label. It ensures your pores remain happy and unclogged.
5. Lasers - The Modern Magic Wand for Pores
Now, for those who want a little magic touch, we have lasers. Lasers are like our garden's fairy godmothers. They use light to tighten the skin and make pores appear smaller.
How Lasers Work to Reduce Pore Size
A skincare expert will guide a laser over your skin. It might feel warm, but it’s not painful. Over the next few days, your skin will start to produce more collagen (the stuff that makes our skin tight and youthful), reducing the appearance of pores.
Ladies, embracing our age doesn't mean we can't have the radiant skin of our dreams. Whether you choose to pamper yourself with pore masks or seek the magic touch of lasers, remember that every flower in our garden is unique. Let's cherish our skin, give it the care it deserves, and watch our garden flourish!
